I was so happy to be introducing new characters again at the end of that second season. I was even playing human beings, who (unlike Peepers and Suel Forrester, for instance) spoke actual words and even sentences in the English language, though I did notice that what I was doing on the show seemed to be making a lot of people wonder about my sexuality. This was annoying not just because it might affect my ability to get dates, but because it was an era when actors and other public figures thought to be anything but heterosexual usually faced discrimination from networks and their audiences. The irony was that one of the main sources of pain and drama in my life since I was a teenager had been how girl crazy I was, always falling for the right girl at the wrong time, or the wrong girl at the right time, or the wrong girl at the wrong time (there was always a wrong in there somewhere).

As we end what I find has turned out to be one of the more boring chapters of this book for some reason, I feel like I should leave you on a high note. So here’s one more special moment from that season: One time, when I stopped by Lorne’s office to speak to him and he wasn’t there, I asked one of his assistants, Cerie, where he was. “I don’t know,” Cerie replied. “He should be back soon. Right now he’s out shopping for socks with Paul Simon.”

Which makes perfect sense. I mean, what else would you do with Paul Simon?
